This is it - The wheels we've been looking for!
Hot-die forged using a hot ingot of 6061-T6 aluminum and up to 8,000 tons of hydraulic pressure.
In a series of crush tests against comparable wheels, Alcoa forged aluminum wheels proved to be as much as four times
stronger than cast aluminum - and up to twice as strong as steel.
Polished, not coated, Alcoa's M/T wheels are great looking and built with serious off-roaders in mind.
The M/T Classic and the M/T Challenger are corrosion resistant and 100% machined for superior balance.
What We Really Think
"Great looking" and "Strong" don't begin to tell you what we really think of Alcoa wheels. We've taken these wheels to Moab and
beat them on the rocks, and looked darn good doing it. We've seen others break aluminum rims and bend steel wheels, but
you'd be hard pressed to damage the hot-forged Alcoa M/T's. We particularly like the fact that the valve-stems are not as exposed as some of the other rims we've tested.
All of the rims we tested showed the pride Alcoa puts into their wheels. There were no marks, creases, or blemishes on
any of our wheels, and that's a first for us. A few "birth-marks" are almost expected these days, but apparently Alcoa thought otherwise. A true Testament to quality.
To keep it all in the family, so to speak, we decided to wrap M/T Radial Claws around our new wheels, and just in time for
our Fun Run 2001. The wheels held their shape as expected,
even after being bashed into the rocks in Moab. You'll be seeing these wheels on Stubby
for a long time to come.
"The combination of strength and light weight is the performance criteria required by some of the
most demanding wheel applications in the world. The wheels used on U.S. Army and Marine battlefield tanks, U.S. Navy
and Air Force planes, and commercial jumbo jets are hot-die forged."
