The new Jeep® Liberty (dubbed KJ) is powered by a shortened, 3.7L V-6 version of the ever popular
4.7L Jeep® Grand Cherokee V-8. Like its big brother, the 3.7L has a chain-driven single
overhead cam, and a fabricated tubular camshaft. Unique to the 3.7L is a gear-driven balance shaft, composite intake
manifold with individual tuned runners on each cylinder, and an active knock sensor system to improve performance and
reliability. The 3.7L V-6 is mated to a multi-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The overseas version is also available with
a new 2.5L direct ignition 4-cylinder turbodiesel.
The Jeep® Liberty borrows its rear link-coil suspension design from the Grand Cherokee,
while sporting a totally new Jeep® independent front suspension. Don't worry, it's
Rubicon tested and offers eight full inches of suspension travel. This new design incorporates cast iron lower and forged
steel upper control arms, coupled to a cast iron steering knuckle with permanently lubricated ball joints.
The Jeep® Liberty is also available with a new Sentry Key theft deterent system, offering
remote door unlocking and will also open the rear flipper glass and unlock the liftgate.
