Dennis Smith's 1981 CJ5
"I bought this Jeep from my brother-in-law, who paid $350 for it and we brought it
home in buckets. It has a 4" suspension lift and a 4" body lift, 35x12.50 BFG All
Terrains, a 304 that has since been tweaked with an Edlebrock cam, timing gear and chain, intake
manifold, and carberator. It is also equipped with an Accel ignition, K&N air filter, and front
tow hooks.Future plans include a new body (this one is kind of in bad shape covered with
paint). I'd like to get Dana 60 differentials, 4-wheel disc brakes, an Optima battery, a
winch of course, maybe some rear tow hooks, a full roll cage, and plenty of off road action." - Dennis

Lori Evans' 1981 Scrambler CJ8
"We bought our CJ8 in Sigonella, Italy from a Navy Corpsman; he didn't want to sell it, but we
were persistant. At that time, the SR-4 and Dana 300 were in the bed, and it had been sitting
not running without the hard top and doors for 1-1/2 years. The day we towed it home, I was
stopped by a guy with a T-5 he wanted to sell (in Italy! I think It must have been an OMEN).
4WD Hardware and 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers shipped us some parts and we had it on the road and
later moved back to Florida when the NAVY transfered us.
It drove like and old farm truck, plowed in the corners (scary, like the tires were flat), so
some suspension upgrades were needed. We added 2" springs and a shackle reversal, shocks and
sway bar bushings (it now rides pretty firm, I am going to try some adjustable shocks later).
My wife Lori very much likes the factory paint, 'AMC Sherwood Green', but the rust was starting
to win. So for her last birthday I had it repainted the same color, plans to get the 'SCRAMBLER'
and 'JEEP' emblems in spice are in the future.
We want to keep it kind of 'factory looking' - I'll do anything to my YJ, you can get them
everywhere, but a CJ-8 (they are easier to sell than buy these days). It only does light
trails!
Our CJ-8 didn't come with a spare tire or carrier, I traded for this CJ factory swing away and
got a junk yard wheel (sanded and painted all 5 rims this tan color and installed JEEP center
caps). The rear bumper isn't made for a CJ, but with a little cutting and grinding it fits good
(it has a bad departure angle, but a great daily-driver bumper in cause of a rear end accident).
Installed a Ramsey RE8000 lbs winch and Hella 55 watt Fog Lights. Thinking about some of those
wooded side rails, but just ain't sure if I like them. Future plans include a 30-spline, 3.73
geared, and a Dana 44 rear with a Trac-Loc differential." - Lori
